Indonesian Society (IndoSoc) University of York organized its first event, Indonesian Food Night, on October 29th 2014. More than 30 students from a variety of countries came to taste Gado-Gado (vegetable salad with peanut dressing), Nasi Goreng (fried rice), Ayam Bakar (roasted chicken), Sambal (chilli sauce), and Es Buah (Fruit Soup), all made by Indonesian Students at University of York.
This event was conducted to introduce Indonesian Food to students from other countries, and to fulfill Indonesian students’ craving for traditional dishes as well. Everyone relished the food, and everybody was very happy!
Rania, a postgraduate student from Greek, loved the Ayam Bakar the most. She was also astonished to know that vegetables can get along really well with peanut sauce. Surprisingly, she also liked the Sambal, and even expected it to be a lot spicier. We also prefer it to be extra-hot, Rania, but unfortunately we need to adjust the level of spiciness in order to satisfy everyone’s taste buds!
After tasting delicious foods from Indonesia, we played games together. We guessed some random questions (including about Indonesia) and had fun.
Everyone went home with a full stomach and immense happiness. See you in the next IndoSoc events!
